In the past year our Club has participated in many local tournaments, including the Life Members Open in Manchester last April and more recently the 2008 Greater New Haven Open. Congratulations are deserved for our very own Richard Chang, as he won the Greater New Haven Open last Saturday for U1600, sweeping the competition with a perfect 4.0 score in four games. Will Klein also did well, finishing third for U1200 with a 4.0 score in five games.
On February 16 & 17 our members will be playing at the 83rd Western Mass and CT Valley Chess Championship in Holyoke, MA. The entry fee is very affordable and this historic event is moving to a new venue. For more info visit WMass-Chess.us/events.htm.
We are still meeting at the South Windsor Public Library every Wednesday at 6pm. All are welcome to attend; we host a wide range of skill levels and ages. We provide a fun, friendly atmosphere to enjoy the game of chess.
We typically meet upstairs at the Seminar room most of the time. Sometimes this room may be taken by another group. Sometimes we meet at the Friends room. Both rooms are on the second floor, upstairs of the library.
Please note that sometimes, we may decide to hold a Saturday evening gathering to play some chess at the church. The Church of Christ is located at 595 Tolland Turnpike, Manchester. This location, the church is considered to be our alternate site as well as our site for hosting Chess tournaments. Fred Townsend & I will be running some tournaments starting on April 28th, a one day Saturday event. We have also reserved May 12, Saturday to be another tournament date. We look forward to seeing you at these tournaments at the church as well as the regular Wednesday evening gatherings at the library. Thank you.
We had a visit from former Connecticut State Champions Ted Mchugh as well as Harris Appelman on Wednesday evening, October 4th. We also had a visit from another Connecticut Chess Master, Rick Bauer on October 11th.
